THE APPROACH
Your home is getting smarter.
Every electrical upgrade to your home draws from the same system. A home that handles it well did not happen by accident, It was planned - with a proper load calculation, a permitted installation, and enough head-room for what comes next.
That is what we do. Not just the installation in front of us, but the home behind it.
Load calculation first
Every project starts with a CEC Rule 8-200 load calculation. We know exactly what your panel supports before recommending anything.
Permitted and inspected
Every installation is permitted and inspected with TSBC or the local municipality. Your installation is on record and your insurance is protected.
Designed for what comes next
Whatever's on the radar, a properly designed installation accounts for future upgrades - so you're not starting over with the next project.
Strata expertise
We handle strata documentation and approvals on your behalf. Strata installations are a specialty, not an afterthought.

He clearly explained the scope of work, communicated very well throughout the process. Easy to deal with, professional workmanship, and overall an excellent experience."

"I'm very satisfied with the work Vanguard did for me. I required new wiring and related electrical work associated with the installation of an electric heat pump. Tyler was on time, on budget, and he communicated with me throughout the process. No surprises, and it culminated with a successful inspection / permit outcome."

COMMON QUESTIONS
FAQ
Who is Vanguard Electric Services and what do they specialize in?
Vanguard Electric Services Ltd is a Metro Vancouver residential electrical contractor specializing in home electrification - EV chargers, heat pump electrical, service upgrades, and more. Every job is led by Tyler Whitmell, a BC Master Electrician and Red Seal holder with TSBC Licence LIC00214330. Every electrical upgrade is permitted and inspected.
Do I need a permit for an EV charger installation in BC?
Yes. All level 2 EV charger installations in BC require an electrical permit through Technical Safety BC or the local Authority Having Jurisdiction. Every Vanguard installation is fully permitted and inspected - this protects your home insurance, your resale value, and your BC Hydro rebate eligibility. Unpermitted installations are a liability.
What is load management and why does it matter for EV charging?
Load management is a system installed in or near your electrical panel that monitors your home's total electrical demand in real time and adjusts your charger's output so your panel is never overloaded. It means you can install a standard 40A EV charger without a costly service upgrade in most homes. It also qualifies for an additional $200 BC Hydro rebate. Your Home Charging Readiness Report will tell you whether your home needs it.
Can I get an EV charger installed in a strata or townhome in Vancouver?
Yes. Strata properties in BC require written strata council approval before an electrical permit can be issued. We handle the strata documentation on your behalf, including the work description and any supporting technical information needed. Strata and townhome installations are a specialty, not an afterthought. We understand the BC Strata Property Act and the EPR process.
What BC Hydro/CleanBC rebates are available for EV charger installations?
Current programs through BC Hydro and CleanBC may provide up to $800 in stacked rebates and bill credits for qualifying single family homes - including $350 for the charger, $200 for a load management device, and additional credits through the Peak Saver program. Your exact eligibility is confirmed in your Home Charging Readiness Report.
Do I need a service upgrade before installing an EV charger or heat pump?
Not always. In most homes, a properly designed EV charger installation with load management fits within the electrical service. Whether you need a service upgrade depends on your calculated demand under Canadian Electrical Code Rule 8-200. Your home load calculation will tell us whether an upgrade is needed and what it would involve.

Do you do in-person assessments?
Most EV charger assessments can be completed virtually from photos - your electrical panel and parking area is all we need. For homes planning multiple upgrades or with complex electrical situations, in-persons assessments are available at $150 applied in full towards any work booked.
